Namib lodge safari
(11 days - Western Namibia )

This Safari will inspire you through its endless, red glowing dunes near Sossusvlei, which can reach beyond a height of 300 meters. Visit the untouched Tsondab Valley Reserve to realize the living Namib Desert, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, enjoy strolling down the alleys and beach at the typical colonial town of Swakopmund. You will walk in the footsteps of the ancient inhabitants and view rock engravings. Game viewing in the famous Etosha National Park with its free roaming herds of Zebra, Elephants, and occasional larger predators like leopards and lions in Namibia’s wide open savanna. Round your safari off with a visit to the Waterberg Plateau, boasting a unique fauna and flora.

1. Day: Arrival at Hosea Kutako Airport. Your guide meets you at the airport and takes you to the capital city Windhoek. Short city tour and you have the opportunity to exchange some money and last shopping for necessities. Departure from Windhoek, via the Khomas Highland and the spectacular Spreetshoogte mountain pass into the Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world. Picnic en route and arrival in the accommodation near Sesriem/Sossusvlei. Enjoy the sunset in the desert on a sunset drive offered from the Lodge.

2. Day: Early morning drive into the Sossusvlei, along the Tsauchab River to visit the highest dunes in the world. Picnic breakfast in the dunes. The light and contrasts are ideal for photography early in the morning. Optionally you can book a ride over the dunes in a hot air balloon. Leaving Sossusvlei during he heat of the day, we drive north along the Namib Naukluft Park via Solitaire to the untouched Wilderness Area of the Tsondab Valley Reserve. Spectacular desert landscapes and scenery await you – a photographer’s paradise. The day ends with a relaxing sundowner.

3. Day:
Today we partake in a scenic and informative desert drive into this exclusive area, over dunes, into canyon’s and along mountains you will experience the living desert, where ancient Camelthorn trees survive the harsh elements, herds of Oryx and Springbuck antelopes can be seen. Alternatively a scenic flight in a 5-seater Cessna can be undertake to fly over the southern Skeleton Coast, Sossusvlei, Kuiseb Canyon and the desert.

4. Day:
Leaving Tsondab Valley, we drive via the Kuiseb Canyon through the Namib Naukluft Park, to the waterholes in the desert Ganab and Hotsas, via the Welwitschia Plains and the Moon landscape to Swakopmund. Picnic en route. Arrival in Swakopmund in the afternoon. Short city tour and check in to your Pension. Enjoy a delicious seafood dinner fresh from the Atlantic Ocean as well as other Namibian culinary specialities.

5. Day: A day in Swakopmund has much to offer, e.g. in the morning drive to Walvisbay, Namibia’s harbour town, where you go on a morning boat cruise in the lagoon, which is of much interest for marine life enthusiasts, crowned with some Champagne and Oysters and brunch aboard. Return to Swakopmund and spent the afternoon with your free leisure time or discuss further activities with your guide in Swakopmund. e.g. visit the crystal gallery, the Karakulia weavers, visit the crafts street market, etc. and Swakopmund is an excellent venue for souvenir shopping. Further more you have the opportunity to take a 2 ½ hour scenic flight from Swakopmund, along the southern Skeleton Coast, flying over some of the highest sand dunes in the world - Ship wrecks, salt pans, seal colony’s, spectacular views and colour contrast of desert landscapes that are typically Namibian.

6. Day:
Departure from Swakopmund, north along the coast to Cape Cross, where we visit one of the largest seal colonies in Namibia. Turning inland we drive along the Brandberg, via Uis, through the Damaraland to Twyfelfontein. Picnic en route. Visit the Bunt Mountain and the Organ Pipes in the afternoon.

7. Day:
Twyfelfontein is a well known cultural heritage sites, where a large number of ancient rock engravings and a few rock paintings can be seen. After breakfast we take a walk on the slopes of the surrounding sandstone formations. This will bring you close to some interesting art of early civilisation. Afterwards we leave Twyfelfontein to visit the Petrified Forest near Khorixas before continuing to Outjo and Etosha National Park, to Okaukuejo Rest Camp in Etosha.

8. Day: Early morning departure on a game drive through the Etosha Park. Along the route we visit various waterholes where most of the game congregates in this dry season of the year. The Etosha Park has a total area of 22 000 square kilometres, half the size of Switzerland! Through open plain, Mopane-savanna and Acacia-savanna we drive east toward Namutoni. In the afternoon we leave Etosha through the Von Lindequist Gate to check in at the wonderful Mushara Lodge.

9. Day: Today we leave for an early morning game drive into the Etosha National Park. Best game viewing is in the morning and with some luck you might encounter a leopard, lions, elephants and a lot of typical Namibian wildlife. You’ll be back for a light lunch at the Lodge, and have time to relax at the pool during the hot time of the day. Afternoon game drives in Etosha Park until sunset.

10. Day: Today we drive to the little mining town of Tsumeb, visit the Otjikoto Lake, a small Museum, and the Hoba Meteorite, which weighs app. 60 tones, on our way to the Waterberg. Picnic en route. Arrival at the Waterberg Wilderness Lodge in the afternoon. If time allows you can partake in a farm drive on the Farm Otjosongombe. The Waterberg is famous for the variety of unique fauna and flora on the slopes of this sandstone plateau. Sit around the campfire in the evening and try to spot a shooting star.

11. Day: After breakfast you have the opportunity to partake in a guided walk onto the Waterberg Plateau, which is rewarded with a magnificent view over the sand savanna of the Omaheke Region. After the walk onto the plateau we depart for Windhoek. A shot visit to the woodcarvers and crafts market in Okahandja before arriving in Windhoek. Afternoon transfer to the Hosea Kutako International Airport for your departure flight.
